After courageously battling a prolonged illness, John Swift quietly passed away on Monday, November 26. John was an enthusiastic member of Hoosier BMW CCA (among other diverse interests of his) who graciously volunteered his spare time and always had an amusing story to share with fellow club members.
John's viewing will be held Wednesday, November 28, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Randall & Roberts Funeral Home (12010 Allisonville Road in Fishers, IN). His memorial service will be Thursday, November 29, at 11:00 a.m. at the East 91st Street Christian Church (6049 E. 91st Street in Indianapolis).
John J. Swift 62, Fishers, passed away Monday, November 26, 2007 at home. He was born March 2, 1945 in Boston, Massachussetts. John worked for twelve years as an aircraft accident investigator for Rolls-Royce. Prior to moving to Indianapolis, John worked as a senior trainer and Regimental Aviation Safety Officer for the U.S. Army's elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and was a lifetime member of the Nightstalker's Association. John's military career as an Aviation Warrant Officer, spanning from 1969-1992, took him and his family to Germany, Hawaii, and numerous posts in the United States.
John was a decorated combat veteran of Vietnam, earning ten airmedals and a bronze star for his service as a Cobra gunship pilot. John's passionate pursuit of the very fullness of life was played out in his love of speed, competition, and the fellowship of those like him. John raced sailboats through the Molokai Channel in Hawaii, go-carts in Europe, and his beloved Red BMW on the track here in Indianapolis. He was a former member of the US Army Europe Ski Team, Eagle Creek Sailing Club, The Iroquois Lagoon Yacht Club, and the Hoosier BMW Car Club.
He is survived by wife, Cheryl 'Kish' Swift; daughter, Major Jennifer (& Shaun) Bailey; son, Hans (& Teresa) Swift. Services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at East 91st Street Christian Church in Indianapolis, with Rev. John Samples officiating. Friends may call Wednesday, November 28, 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
