Reference is made to Oct 2007 Roundel article re Annual OBX CruZ. This years cruZ will be Ap 25 to 27, 2008. Here is the agenda:
Lee’s Favorite Drive
This issue of “Lee’s Favorite Drives” tells of one drive that has been shared and enjoyed over the past few years by many member of the BMW CCA in the area, as well as from New York to Florida. It’s the Annual OBX CruZ organized each spring by Rich and Claire Broughton of Morehead City. Past cruZs have covered all the lighthouses of our Outer Banks (OBX) as well as many of the fine restaurants located along our coast. These cruzs were highlighted in an article in the October 2007 Roundel. It all began in 2002 with eight Z3s and grew to 37 Bimmers last year.
This year’s cruZ will prove to be the biggest and best yet. We are expecting 50 to 60 cars from New York to Ohio to Florida. The theme is the “cruZ to cure Parkinson’s Disease.” It will kick off on Friday April 25, 2008 at the Comfort Suites Inn, New Bern, NC with an old fashion Down East Pig Picking. Also on Friday evening, there will be a silent auction of BMW gear, original art, custom fishing tackle and weekend vacations in Eastern NC. All funds raised will go to Parkinson’s Disease research at Duke University Medical School and will be tax deductible.
Saturday morning will find us getting an early start by touring the Fountain Power Boat factory near Washington and possibly take one of the ever exciting rides on the Pamlico River in one of these world famous “go fast boats”. And do they ever go fast; like a BMW on the water. From Fountain Boats we will convoy to River Dunes near Oriental NC, where we will have lunch in their beautiful club house at the marina. River Dunes is a new community highlighted in Coastal Living Magazine with some of the most beautiful homes in coastal NC. Bring your checkbook because after leaving River Dunes, ladies, we will be stopping in the sailing capitol of NC, Oriental, to shop at the many quaint businesses located along the waterfront. Let’s pray for “top down weather”.
We’ll dine Saturday night at Captain Ratty’s in downtown New Bern, and the ladies will have another opportunity to shop the many stores found in this Colonial Capital of NC. After dinner, we’ll enjoy time on the water front of the Neuse and Trent Rivers at our hotel as well as the near by Sheraton Grand Marina, with its large number of beautiful yachts.
Early Sunday will find us off to the NC Aquarium at Pine Knolls Shores, our third and final aquarium to visit. This is North Carolina’s biggest and finest. Our weekend cruZ will conclude with a fantastic seafood lunch at the world famous Sanitary Seafood Market and Restaurant on the waterfront in Morehead City, NC. Then it will be good byes to many new and old friends till the 2009 cruZ, when we’ll explore Topsail Island, Surf City and Wilmington.
Don’t be left out on this annual event. Registration is $20 per person. This will cover dinner on Friday night and lunch on Saturday and hopeful some left over for the Parkinson’s Disease Research Foundation at Duke. To register contact Rich & Claire Broughton, 201 Brandywine Place Drive Morehead City, NC 28557, cell number 252-670-0803 or email CBroughton@ec.rr.com.
PS: We are still looking for corporate sponsors and donated items for our silent auction that will benefit Parkinson’s research at Duke.
