E38 OSV / Intake Manifold Rear Cover

Was driving 1996 740IL and all of a sudden i see white smoke coming from the rear and I hear a whining noise coming from the engine and ticking. Pulled over to check oil and bone dry from the dip stick. Been trying to do some research from other sites and came upon the OSV. Anyone know anything about OSV or what the symptoms are. Thanks
