E39 dash LED display dims at idle

I have a 2000 E39 M5 with 50k miles. I recently noticed that the LED dash display dims at idle and brightens with an increase in engine revs. The idle speed seems normal and I had not noticed this happening in the past. Is this a symptom to a problem that should be addressed?
