Brake light failure indicator E39

The brake light failure indicator illuminates on dash but all lights working properly. No apparent problems with bulbs. Rotated bulbs but failure light reappears shortly after engine re-start. Sockets appear corrosion free.
Suggestions/advice appreciated.
