BMW 1 Series convertible due here in 2008

BMW’s 1 Series convertible, here in 2008.

BMW of North America has confirmed the U.S. will get not just the new 1 Series coupe but also a convertible edition. BMW says the convertible will arrive “later in 2008” following the hardtop coupe that arrives in the “spring of 2008.” No specific dates have been set for either, so it’s not clear if non-Floridians will see the car in time for beach or for fall foliage tours. It will be a cloth-top vehicle, not a metal hardtop convertible.

BMW continues to pitch the car as the heir to the 2002 throne rather than “smaller than a 3 Series.” In fact, dimensionally that’s a fair statement, as the 3 Series has grown over the years, even if not to the point where the reat seat is comfy for adults.

I couldn't care less about the cabrio.
I'd like to see the hatchback come to the US.
It would make it easy to load up a set of tires and tools for a weekend of fun.
